Sustainable fashion

As much as I’m very passionate about fashion and I think it is “one of the purest expressions of art because it is art lived on a daily basis”, it is also the second-largest polluter in the world. With it being such an important part of our everyday life, we need to be more aware of fashion’s environmental impact.

Everything beautiful has a dark side to it, and fashion makes no exception. Greenhouse gases emissions, deforestation, water pollution, wastes accumulation, microfibers in our oceans are just a few of these issues. Knowing these terrible consequences might not feel very encouraging to aspiring fashion designers or anyone who wants to work in this industry, but it’s essential to acknowledge them in order to find solutions. It would make a huge difference if, as young designers, we would start to bring awareness to this issue, take initiatives, and come up with ideas because it’s time for a change.

Alternative solutions like recycled fabrics and biodegradable fabrics and packaging are just some of the ways the fashion industry can become more sustainable. The consumer’s choices are also crucial, as choosing slow fashion over fast fashion, organic/natural fabrics, and being more responsible when shopping ( not buying more clothes than we need/wear) would make an improvement.

While scrolling through Youtube, I found this video that inspired me to make some mood boards about this issue, and hopefully, it will inspire and intrigue more people to discuss this topic.

Here is the video I was talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqOKsiTc9fs
